“I’ve been in professional audio and video and a musician for about 30 years so I feel I know what sounds right. I auditioned the Tempest speakers at the showroom at Rosebery Sydney and was actually blown away. All frequencies where in the right place - top to bottom, timing was superb. Plenty of bass, clear open mids and natural detailed highs. I’ve owned the Tempests for a few months now and they continue to engage me daily. I’ve had some very high end systems and speakers that where great but these things just get on with the music. I feel they are an absolute bargain. Highly recommended.”

Testimonials

“i run my Tempest speakers through a Cambridge CXA 81 amp with a TubeBox 382 preAmp and would say that they are the most responsive and highest quality performance standard speakers that I have heard.
They bring my whole vinyl collection to life and the diversity of sound punches through to give you a great listening experience.
The boys at Atlas & Hurd have really nailed these speakers and every audio enthusiast should invest in a pair these gems.”

Philosophy

The Tempest harmonises the warmth of classic audio with the precision of modern hi-fi technology. This fusion creates a captivating experience that brings out the emotions embedded in music, while preserving the depth of every note.

Sound Signature

The sound signature of the Tempest has been tuned to obtain the best of the golden era of Hi-Fi while expanding and opening up the fidelity with carefully selected technology of today.

Building on the past we retained the warmth and lushness, modernised it with fast punchy bass, open mid-range and hyper realistic transparency.

The Tempest brings nostalgic comfort while allowing you to peer deeper into the music. This has created an uplifting expansion of the past to create the new standard of today.

Transducers

The silk dome tweeter is the essential component in achieving this level of audio excellence, producing high-frequency sounds with exceptional clarity and precision. It boasts a large surround dome, dual balanced compression chamber, and dual copper caps, all designed to enhance the realism and depth of the sound.

The high strength neodymium motor system with a non-reflective cast aluminum chamber is another feature that helps minimize distortion and improve dynamics. The shallow flow magnet structure optimizes coupling to the rear chamber, while the CCAW voice coil provides fast transient response while minimizing the moving mass.

The very heart of the Tempest's prowess resides in its remarkable 7.5-inch high-strength woofer, a testament to engineering excellence. Straddling the line between compact and expansive, this woofer effortlessly delivers deep bass while ensuring wide dispersion for a truly encompassing soundstage.

At the core of this exceptional woofer lies the high-force factor motor, meticulously crafted from pure copper and a high-purity neodymium alloy. This blend results in realistic dynamics that this transducer is celebrated for. The spirit of innovation continues through to the material selection process, exemplified by the choice of Egyptian Papyrus™ as the diaphragm material. Renowned for its ability to imbue lush midrange characteristics.

The Cabinet

The Tempest cabinet has been designed with deep consideration to scale and balance to be both acoustically correct and aesthetically pleasing.

The solid oak provides liveliness and warm undertones akin to musical instruments. There are good reasons why instruments are made from timber!

The solid oak is lined internally with a proprietary acoustic internal panel (IAP) dual panel technology. This combined with high quality asymmetrical bracing creates an acoustically inert cabinet.

This greatly reduces unwanted vibrations and distortion allowing for less colouration, a tighter bass response, and enhanced soundstage and imaging. This brings about new meaning to musical enjoyment.

Passive Filters

The Tempest's passive filters are designed to create a smooth and seamless transition between the woofer and tweeter, which brings about well-balanced and natural sound.

Second-order filters are used, which provides the perfect balance of acoustic blend and distortion control.

The Tempest achieves natural tonality with a frequency tolerance of +-1.5dB. This ensures the timbres of each instrument sound the way it should, realistic and uncoloured.

Time Aligned

The Tempest crossover is pure wizardry and science. The crossover employs an all-pass phase filter network which truly sets it apart from other audiophile grade speakers.

This Time Alignment Correction (TAC) network is key in maintaining phase coherency by delaying the timing between the tweeter and the woofer.

The end result is a speaker that produces music with exacting rhythm and pace.

Deep Bass

The Tempest features a bespoke bass reflex port, which provides extremely deep bass that is both articulate and responsive.

To mitigate the effects of port distortion and “chuffing”, We have utilized our proprietary rubber-backed textile material.

All this will make you believe you’re listening to a floor stander, deep bass in a compact cabinet.

Terminals

Our gold-plated solid copper terminals ensure strong and ultra-low resistance, which ensures electricity flows unimpeded from your amplifier.

The Tempest utilizes a Quad Terminal Layout, which allows for either true bi-amping or bi-wiring.

Simple single speaker cable can be used with the use of bridging cables, which are included.
